The Octagon Is Coming

UFC Gym opens its first east coast location in New Hyde Park

For those that are fans of the Ultimate Fighting Championship fighters that are seen on their television screens, Nassau County residents now have the chance to train like them. Starting on June 15, the first ever east coast location for the brand-extended UFC gym opened at 2020 Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park.

UFC Gyms operate under the slogan “Train Different,” which is some of the best training that people come to this type of gym to get, according to Operations Manager Suzanne Silver.

“There’s class-based learning on how to train as a fighter without having to fight,” says Silver.

The 24-hour facility is not your average gym. The 40,000 square feet building includes a 32-foot Octagon, BJJ studio, bag room, top-of-the-line strength training and cardio machines, battling ropes, agility ladders and other more basic gym facilities to boast.

The selection process for the New Hyde Park location came as a direct result of the community atmosphere the gym is trying to build, according to Silver. Considering the volume of families around the area and the traffic on Jericho Turnpike. The location seemed perfect. The gym has also already received memberships from those in Nassau County, Queens and Brooklyn from commuters who can get off the train just a few blocks away.

“We want to bring a lot of families in here,” said Silver. “We’re big on community. Kids and parents have their classes at the same time. We’re also very sports-oriented and are trying to operate with schools.”

To further create the fitness destination for the whole family, the club offers a UFC kids GYM, a private kids training area, offering Youth Fitness Classes, Active Fitness Gaming, Youth Mixed Martial Arts and Ultimate Birthday Parties.

While the kids are enjoying themselves in the youth activities, parents can be taking part in UFC signature classes such as Hot Hula, woman’s self defense, performance cycling, boxing and more.

Though the UFC branding is based on ultimate fighting, Silver stresses that the goal of the gym is to “incorporate training like a fighter but it is not a fighting gym.” Individuals who go to the gym can learn the benefits of self-defense and martial arts with either a fitness level membership or an ultimate level membership or a youth level membership.

The youth level features benefits like performance training, sports and fitness certification and a programming specialist. The Fitness level is valid 24 hours per day, the use of all training rooms and the use of all group fitness classes. Private services and the kids club are also offered at a nominal fee. The Ultimate level gets guests full access to all MMA classes, all Ultimate classes, 10% off of private training and gym store purchases, as well as any services the Fitness level guests receive.

According to Silver, the UFC gym has everything a regular fitness gym has and more. It features an Arm Bar Cafe for energy drinks and smoothies, as well as pay per view viewing parties for the UFC fights.

“We want all our guests just to use the ‘Train Different’ approach and feel empowered by one of the best work outs you’ll ever do,” says Silver. “We have a selective process for some of the best trainers in the world and it’s a great place to workout and meet new people and new friends.”
